We have this idea that relationships are supposed to go on forever, but that is not necessarily true. Some relationships are only meant to be interim- Maybe to heal heart-break, or to kick-start your career or for adventure. The expectation that they have to fulfill on all levels is unrealistic. Understanding this can give your relief when a relationship ends…
Don’t Be A Victim
Understand that you can act like a victim but you don’t have to be victimize. You don’t want to be with someone who does not want to be with you. Remember, it is as much your choice to end the relationship as the other person.
Change the Narrative
When you are trying to rationalize the breakup, you may say ”I can’t believe he/she left me.” That saying keeps you in shock. It keeps you in denial. The sooner you can get to “Its over. I will be okay.” -The sooner you can begin to griev and heal.
Usually people avoid sections of town or situations that were part of the couple’s haunts. Instead you should actually frequent those places, not for the likelihood of running into your ex, but to take the intrigue out of the game. Don’t ever let someone dictate your mobility.
Put your attention on some big task…Train for a 10K. Take lots of hikes. Do yoga. Create a Non-Profit.
Find the Love of Your Life
Understand there is no “LOVE of YOUR LIFE.” You have to wake-up everyday and make a person “The Love of Your Life.” Knowing this will help you realize there is someone else out there for you. If you think the lost relationship was the only person, it will prolong your agony.
