Each March we celebrate National Women’s History Month. It’s a time to recognize women from the past and present who have made strides to improve our world.
Think of the millions of women who have come before us. What was it like to not have the right to vote or to not be able to go to a certain school because of the color of their skin? What did it feel like to be judged for wanting a career, or like Barbara Walters, a chance to work next to a man on the news desk?
What if those women had said to themselves, “I am not enough”, or believed they would fail or be judged? Their individual choices to be more, do more, and say more paved the way for all of us.
These women turned inward and took the chance to be more. They were brave. They looked at each situation and said, “I deserve better.”
As I reflect on their many accomplishments, I also wonder what we too can do today to continue to pave a road for other women?
The one thing I have come to realize is that each of us have that voice inside. A purpose— a nagging in our gut to do or be something more— but often times we suppress it. Some people have simply talked themselves out of worthiness.
I say, it’s time. It’s time for all of us to take an inner inventory.
What is it that you can give to society, to your community, to yourself? Whether it’s to be a great mom, the CEO of a company— or both! Maybe even the creator of a product or the founder of a non-profit. It is possible and it’s never too late! I speak from experience on this one because I too try and talk myself out of creating by convincing myself that I’m past my prime or it will take too long. That’s B.S. It is time to thrive and create!
Part of the reason I started Be Kind & Co. is because I want women and men (Yes, I didn’t forget about you guys) to begin to realize kindness is all about self-care. Take the time to truly ask yourself: “What makes me want to get out of bed, stay up late, or gives me butterflies?”
When you find that, it’s what you are supposed to be doing. You can do it! You know what it is, now go make it happen.
Go make history— your own history!
