You might remember Carmen Electra from her work as a model, from her time as an actress in Baywatch and Scary Movie, or as a singer with Prince’s famous Paisley Park Records. From the moment she entered the public eye, Carmen has never seemed to age.
Since she first appeared in the public eye, Carmen’s beauty has enchanted millions of fans. Now, at 48, she’s ready to share the secret to staying young and beautiful. She credits a vegan, cruelty-free skincare routine that she’s been using her whole life, now made available to the world as “GOGO Skincare.”
We spoke with Carmen about her new self-care products, and why she believes in making beauty routines sustainable, vegan, and cruelty-free.
Congratulations on your new skincare system! We thought it was so unique that the GOGO products are all vegan and cruelty-free. While other brands might not put a heavy focus on the ways in which they treat animals, this was important to you. What was it that inspired you to make a completely vegan product?
Carmen Electra: Thank you! It was really important to me that these products be grounded in nature. The ingredients that I really love, and have always used, are vegan so it was a no-brainer that GoGo would be vegan as well. As far as being cruelty-free goes it’s simple, I love animals and firmly believe they shouldn’t be harmed in the name of beauty.
In your years of figuring out your own skin routine, when did you realize that having a simpler regimen with less chemicals was what worked for you? Was that surprising?
Carmen Electra: I’ve had the same skincare for 20 years and have always focused on a moisturizing makeup removal, hyaluronic acid serum, and a deep moisturizing face cream packed full of high-quality essential ingredients. For me, it’s really about the consistency of a routine that has really worked for me to keep my skin healthy, surgery-free, and glowing.
GoGo Skincare is a sustainable product too! How did your company ensure that your production is kind to the earth? Did it make the process more difficult?
Carmen Electra: I feel like creating a sustainable and conscious product line is the only way, and as good humans we must be mindful as we create. So from the outset, I selected the best partners who have the same intentions when doing business. It is harder, of course, but the labor of love is more rewarding knowing that no harm is done end to end.
Self-care is something that many women overlook as a luxury. What benefits are there to being kind to your skin?
Carmen Electra: Self-care is more important now than ever and I think some women who haven’t prioritized it in the past are making space for it in their lives now, considering how difficult this year has been. I think just carving out the time each day, however long you have, to do something for yourself is so important. Whether it’s soaking in the bath, reading a book, or doing your skincare routine, just try to find at least one thing a day you’re able to do for yourself.
