March is National Women’s History Month and to celebrate, Be Kind & Co. is highlighting women who share our vision that kindness is a powerful practice that can help create a kinder world one act at a time!

From the time Dr. Shica got her first Easy-Bake Oven, she knew that she loved to bake. Growing up in South Carolina, she baked with her grandma and learned the best desserts come from using quality ingredients. When Dr. Shica founded her own bakery, she committed to keeping that tradition alive.

Dr. Shica now delivers her Southern-style treats to Hollywood executives and actors. Garnering praise from renowned chefs, producers, and on-air personalities, her rich and fudgy “Almost Famous Brownies” have created quite a stir. Her bakery has been featured on QVC and at the top of Oprah’s Favorite Things list. Her cookies are also currently sold at Hart House restaurants in Los Angeles.

Dr. Shica knew she needed to expand her baked goods to meet the growing demand for vegan treats so she developed a line of mouth-watering, plant-based desserts that satisfy those sweet cravings and allow her customers to maintain their vegan lifestyles.

1.   How do you define kindness?

Kindness is defined by being a servant leader. Servant leaders lead by serving others. If you make a habit to serve others then the blessings will come back your way.

2.   How do you lead with kindness in your personal life?

I lead with kindness by treating our customers the way I would want to be treated. If you give others the same kindness then the reciprocation comes back threefold.

3. What does it mean to you to support other women and to be supported by other women?

I love supporting other women businesses. I try to buy ingredients and supplies from other woman owned businesses when possible.

4. Who or what inspires you to be kinder to yourself and others? How and why?

My mother and grandmother inspired me to be kind to others because they are always so giving. Both of them always go out of their way to help or assist others even when it means it may be inconvenient for them.

5.   What is your superpower?

My superpower is my smile and personality. My goal is to always smile even when I may not feel like it. You never know how far a smile goes to help someone else that may not be having a good day.
