Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York has always been a fan of kindness. Known simply as “Fergie” around the world, the Duchess joined other notable personalities on World Kindness Day this month to declare the importance of being kind.
The former wife of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, also announced her new children’s book, A Gift of Kindness, illustrated by Turine Tran. She also revealed a sequel to her children’s book, Budgie the Little Helicopter.
“A Gift of Kindness is about two young children who are transported to a Victorian fair in 1865 by an act of kindness,” the Duchess said. The book description details the story of Jack and Mary, who are transported back in time when they accept the offer of a chestnut from a bearded old man and his lively small dog, Snowball.
According to the book description, after accepting the gift, “suddenly they are embraced by the delicious aroma of cinnamon, apple tart, and gingerbread and surrounded by people dressed in old-fashioned clothes. Their step back in time to the Victorian era leads Jack and Mary to a poorhouse for orphans, where they invite the mean-spirited old woman in charge to visit the fair with them. Will their simple act of kindness bring joy to her heart and transform the lives of the children in her care?”
Outside of the fantastical world of fiction, the Duchess is engaged in many charitable causes. Her own foundation, Sarah’s Trust, focuses on “being a voice and ambassador for the forgotten women, children, families and communities around the world.” As of late, they have undertaken a huge effort to assist those struggling during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The trust does its part by providing help to frontline workers by connecting suppliers of both essential and luxury goods to hospitals, care communities and hospices at the forefront of managing the UK’s response. To date, more than 80 locations have been reached with more than 150,000 individual deliveries made.
Sarah, Duchess of York said: “It has been humbling to be able to see just a little bit of the incredible work being done by our NHS and other health workers and I’m proud that, working with my daughters and new colleagues at Sarah’s Trust, we’ve been able to make life a little easier for some of them.”
For over 30 years, the Duchess has been involved with charitable causes that support children across the globe. With her new book, “A Gift of Kindness,” the Duchess demonstrates once again how much kindness means to her.
