A Chance to Snuggle & Save a Life

It has been over 15 years since I first fostered a cat and since then I have been so impressed with the non-profit organization Kitten Rescue.

Fast forward to 2019, and now Kitten Rescue has a permanent home in Atwater Village.  The organization offers a place where rescued cats can be fostered.  As a foster you keep the cat at your home, care for them, and take them to adoption events.  The best part of Kitten Rescue is that they are a no-kill organization.  One of the reasons I support them is because they believe in treating every single animal with kindness and dignity, no matter what the situation.

Just recently, I was thrilled to spend one of my days at Kitten Rescue through a volunteer program that my company offers its employees.  I brought my 8 year old son.

We spent the first part of our day in the building for adult cats.  We mopped the floor, wiped down cat houses, changed bedding and did laundry. There was a special section for cats with special needs.  Kitten Rescue is known for never turning away a cat with physical or emotional challenges. I spent a lot of time cuddling a sweet boy with only one eye and wishing I could bring everyone home with me.

The second part of our day was spent in the kitten building, playing with some very energetic babies! They reminded me a lot of my son as they ran, jumped, chased balls, and pawed the air. Playing with kittens is very important work (even though it does not FEEL like work), as it helps to socialize them and make them more adoptable.

In addition to spending a day at the Sanctuary, there are so many ways that you can volunteer with Kitten Rescue. There are weekend adoption events, opportunities to transport cats to and from vet appointments, help with fundraising, or even write bios of foster cats to post online. You can get details about volunteering at www.kittenrescue.org.
